Allium cepa. Utah Yellow Sweet Spanish is a long-day onion that produces large, globe-shaped bulbs with golden-yellow skin and mild, sweet white flesh. The bulbs are excellent for fresh eating and cooking and can also be cured after harvest for storage. A productive choice for gardeners in northern regions where summer days are long enough for proper bulb development.

Long-Day Variety: Best suited to northern growing regions where summer days reach approximately 14–16 hours of daylight, including much of the northern United States.

Planting Tips:
Start Utah Yellow Sweet Spanish onion seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last expected frost, or sow outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked. Transplant or thin seedlings to approximately 4–6 inches apart to allow large bulbs to develop. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil and keep consistently watered during active growth. As the bulbs mature, the tops will begin to fall over naturally. Harvest when most tops have fallen and begun to dry. Cure harvested onions thoroughly in a warm, dry, well-ventilated location before storing.

Because this is a long-day onion, it is best suited to northern growing regions where summer daylight reaches approximately 14–16 hours. Gardeners in southern regions generally have better results with short-day varieties.

🌱 Great for fresh eating, slicing, cooking, and cured onion storage.
